Blair is a BAFTA-nominated, award-winning composer who has composed over two hundred scores for film, theatre and television, with clients ranging from the English National Ballet and the Royal Shakespeare Company to BBC, SKY and ITV. His work includes the smash-hit BBC1 thriller The Guest, the record-breaking documentary The Age of Disclosure, SKY’s The Amazing Mr Blunden, and Class - an eight-part Doctor Who spin-off. Blair composed the score to Russell T Davies’s drama Nolly, starring Helena Bonham Carter, later collaborating again with Davies on the BBC film Men Up.
Blair's work on Nolly saw him receive a BAFTA nomination as well as winning the prestigious Camille Award for Best Television Score. His music for Doctor Jekyll and Becoming Hitchcock received nominations for Best Feature Film Score and Best Documentary Score respectively at the Music + Sound Awards in 2024 and 2025. In 2026, his score for The Age of Disclosure received a nomination from his peers in the ASCAP Composers’ Choice Awards. His work spans major television drama, feature films and documentaries for broadcasters and streamers worldwide.
Classically trained from an early age, Blair holds a BA (Hons) in Music from Durham University and an MA in Composition for Film and Television from the University of Bristol. In 2012 he was nominated for both a Creative Scotland Award and a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best New Talent in the Scottish arts. As a musical arranger he has worked on shows such as Doctor Who and David Attenborough’s Life Story.
Blair is a full voting member of BAFTA and the Television Academy (Emmys), and frequently serves as a judge for awards including The Ivors and the British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs). McDonald & Dodds and The Amazing Mr Blunden were both double-nominated for Best Original Television Score and Best Opening Titles at the Music + Sound Awards, with Nolly also receiving a nomination for Best Original Television Score. In 2026 The Guest won a Clio Music Award for Best Use of Music in Film & Television.
